World says goodbye to Michael Jackson
Amidst the controversy surrounding the death of the King of Pop, his funeral, on Tuesday, was a reminder that there’s one thing that makes him the same to you and me.
The end of a life brings sorrow and reflection on what was lost. It’s a time when family and friends must wrap their heads around the fact that someone they love will be gone for the rest of their lives.
For many years, we’ve learned how troubled and… different, Michael Jackson was. From his countless plastic surgeries to his scandals, his fans have stayed true. His music has captivating the world since he was a child, and millions of fans all over the world mourned his death like a child would mourn the death of a father.
Michael Jackson’s memorial service at the downtown Staples Center arena in Los Angeles welcomed friends, family and fans. With a heavy heart, the program included music performed by poet Maya Angelou, Martin Luther King III and sister Bernice King, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Magic Johnson, Mariah Carey, Lionel Richie, John Mayer, Usher, Jennifer Hudson and a speech by Rev. Al Sharpton.
On Tuesday, we saw the faces of Jackson’s three beautiful children, which he had tried to hide from the media all of their lives. Out of his family and friends who spoke at the service, the most heartbreaking came from his daughter, Paris Katherine Jackson, who reminded the world that he was just a man.
“Daddy has been the best father you can ever imagine, and I just want to say, I love him so much.”
